Many a history aficionado and medieval warfare fan rejoiced when Rise of the Empires debuted their first season on Netflix and took on the hard task of weaving fiction with history in depicting the fall of the Roman empire and conquest of Constantinople (now Istanbul) by Mehmet II. The second season has hit Netflix before 2022 rolled into a new one, with an even bigger look at military tactics and psychological warfare.

Season 2 is dubbed Mehmet Vs Vlad and depicts the behind-the-scenes of exactly how personal it got when Mehmet II went to battle with his childhood colleague (then a captive of the Ottoman Empire) Vlad the impaler.

Vlad's acts of violence and cruelty towards prisoners of war were so infamous that they have made it into popular culture today with many speculating that he inspired Brahm Stoker's character for "Dracula". The scene depicting the "forest of corpses" is not easily forgettable as Rise of the Empires remained true to its original form of storytelling.

This season takes viewers on a series of events about 8 years after the first season, with the story that took Mehmet II to Vlad's kingdom of Wallachia nestled between Hungary and the early Ottoman empire.
