Apr 19, 2023
The first ever women took part in the Maldives National Defense Force's Basic Training Course. The announcement was made by Chief of Defense Force Major General Abdullah Shamaal, who visited the final exercise of the current new batch of Marine Corps.
He noted that while the final exercise was set to assess the "trainees' ability to employ their acquired skills and training with confidence and expertise", it was also participated by history-making trainees.
The Major General congratulated the participation of these soldiers in the training program and wrote, "This batch of Marine Corps Basic Course has made history with the participation of three female soldiers in this course for the very first time". The current Minister for Defense Uz. Mariya Didi is also the first woman to take on that role.
The Marine Corps training program is a grueling and tough take, while recruits train to protect and defend the land and infrastructure of the Maldives as well as help maintain internal security and conduct civil defense operations.
Following the final exercise, recruits of the Marine Corps Basic Course also conducted a children's evening in Addu City Hulhumeedhoo this Wednesday.
