A website where one can check on any inhabited island of the Maldives has finally been launched. The Maldives Tides website was created in collaboration with the first ever Maldivian organization conducting space research, the Maldives Space Research Organisation and by Dr Ahmed Nashwan Abdul Matheen who is a Coastal Engineer and Research Scientist.
According to a profile by Australia's University of New South Wales Global Water Institute, Dr Matheen plans to "better understand the morphodynamics of island systems and come up with a way to model the shoreline behavior. This can then be used to inform design choices for coastal projects on islands such as those in the Maldives".
The website's homepage is simple enough, opening to the map of Maldives with red dots marking inhabited islands. Users can zoom in and out to select the desired island or even search. Once the location has been selected, users are then privy to vital information such as the tide's timings and extent.
Dr Matheen took to Twitter and expressed, "Excited to showcase maldivestide.mv which shows #tide forecasts for individual #islands in the #Maldives. This website was built in partnership with @Msromv as a first step in an #earthobservation project to better understand #waterlevels variations across the country".
